Me? Artist, writer, chemist. Madly in love. Time is my mortal enemy, so I’m doing everything within my power to foil it by squeezing in as much as humanly possible while the clock relentlessly ticks in the background.
Each of my works is meant to explore the theme of transformation. I wholeheartedly believe that each & every person possesses the power to live an extraordinary life. I continue to learn & grow on a daily basis and my art helps me to define and express this process.
The pieces that I make are robust and vibrant. Rather than work on canvas, I prefer the rigidity of wood. Sometimes, the creative process involves some destruction along the way and I like to be free to scrape, heat, burn, and scratch without worrying about warping or ruining a canvas. My art tends to consist of many layers and it is this process that feeds my soul. As each layer is applied and worked into the design, I intentionally focus on my theme of transformation & metamorphosis. With each finished piece, I allow myself to grow, shed bits of the past, and become a slightly different person. I wholeheartedly embrace that. Change is good!
I primarily work in acrylic, encaustic, paper, India ink. The encaustic paints I use are made by hand in my studio using beeswax, damar resin, and pigment. Each piece is glazed and then coated with a clear UV-resistant spray.
